Before we get to the giveaway for today, I have a great bark recipe for you! Bark is easy to make and SOOOOO delicious. It makes a great gift for coworkers or your kids’ teachers, or take it to your next holiday party as a hostess gift. Better yet, keep it for yourself and your family and enjoy the crunchy decadent treat beside the crackling fire and twinkling Christmas tree along with a creamy cup of hot chocolate!
My favorite thing about making bark is that it is so customizable. I made three different kinds of bark for this post, one with yogurt covered pretzels, one with dried cranberries, and one with seasonal sprinkles. You can also use nuts, pieces of peppermint candy, cracker crumbles, or anything else you can dream up! I really liked the dried cranberries on top, but my favorite definitely was the yogurt covered pretzels. They were all great, though…so festive and fun!
I don’t think I need to tell you that this recipe was a hit with the family, especially Thing 2! (more…)
Pumpkin pie flavor in a bite-sized, hand-held treat?!? Yes, please! I love all things pumpkin, especially pumpkin pie. In my family, we typically only enjoy pumpkin pie at Thanksgiving. But as the leaves have started changing and the air has started getting chilly, we have found ourselves craving a little preview of that Thanksgiving treat.
These little rollups are so easy to prepare and are ready in minutes, so you don’t have to spend a lot of time and effort to get that pumpkin pie experience. They are super-cute and delicious, too! (more…)
I have been using a lot of apple butter lately. I love it! Honestly, I did not give apple butter much thought at all until a couple of months ago, when I attended a blogger event called Big Summer Potluck and, as a participant, had the opportunity to enter an apple butter recipe contest. I had never considered apple butter as an ingredient before, but it opened up a whole world of possibilities! You can check out two of my apple butter recipes, Broccoli and Snow Pea Salad with Apple Butter Dressing and Sweet Garlic Basil Sausage and Halloumi Kebabs, if you are interested in seeing what else I have cooked up!
Recently Musselman’s sent me some apple butter and offered a new focus…to put a new spin on a classic recipe using apple butter. I decided that I wanted to come up with a recipe that would fit right in with the fall and winter holidays coming up. Musselman’s Apple Butter has such a wonderful blend of apple flavor and aromatic spices, I thought it would make a great ingredient in gingerbread. (more…)
Today’s post is another great dessert from Thing 1! Here is a sundae in a dish you can EAT! The kids will love it! Take it away, Thing 1!
Though school has started, the weather is still warm and people are trying to find little ways to hang on to summer. One of the first foods I think about when I hear the word ‘summer’ is ice cream. Whether it be in a cone or a cup or all over my face, ice cream is always a cold and sweet way to cool off on hot summer afternoons. With that in mind, I wanted to make a special kind of sundae to celebrate the end of summer, and to try to hold on to it just a little bit longer!
The bowls are completely edible, made out of a special chocolate pie crust that is simple, easy and quick! (more…)
Chocolate and coffee go together like ice cream and cake, am I right? Speaking of CAKE, you must check out this Mocha Cake with Hazelnut Buttercream Frosting that Thing 1 made. It was to die for! Truly! I am drooling all over my keyboard right now just thinking about it!
What made this cake so special, aside from the fact that it was just an AMAZING combination of flavors, was that we were using a different kind of sugar. (more…)
Today’s post is a special guest post from our dessert contributor, Thing 1! This recipe is a slight (slight…ha!) departure from my usual focus on healthy food, but Thing 1 was ADAMANT about frying these things in oil as opposed to baking them. I relented, realizing that there was really no way to make them healthy, whether baked or fried. But, there is room in this kitchen for occasional treats as well as healthy stuff, and I have to say that they sure were delicious! As Thing 1 notes below, you can certainly bake them if you would like to minimize the calories and fat!
Some of my fondest memories involve sitting out under a starry sky, telling stories with family and friends whose faces are illuminated by a crackling flame. The smell of the smoke and the warmth of the coals seem to bring a feeling of comfort. And what goes hand in hand with campfires? S’mores of course! About a week ago, I was craving s’mores, and I was in the mood to be creative! Those two things combined to bring about the birth of these delicious little pastries. (more…)
